Diversity & inclusion

The AAP SOHM Diversity and Inclusion Task Force was created in 2018 by the AAP SOHM Executive Committee to increase diversity and inclusion in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Our mission is to advance the field of pediatric hospital medicine by cultivating resources and support for recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the diverse patients, families, and communities we serve. We are committed to the principles of diversity, inclusion and equity and harnessing them to make all pediatric hospitalists feel engaged and valued. We are committed to creating and sustaining safe and creative environments for pediatric hospitalists and trainees to grow, learn and innovate. We are committed to addressing systemic barriers, bias, racial/ethnic health disparities and racism in the field of pediatric hospital medicine.

What do we do:
· Increase Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the field of pediatric hospital medicine

How do we do this:
· provide resources to and support members of the section in their D&I efforts
· actively speak out against systemic racism and social injustice
· serve as a liaison to the SOHM executive committee

Why do we do this:
· To create and sustain a diverse and inclusive workforce
· To improve the quality of care for our hospitalized patients
· To improve racial/ethnic health disparities
